Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Daihatsu”) announced today that it received the Prize of the Chairman of ECCJ in the best practices category of the Energy Conservation Grand Prize Award 2022 for the energy conservation in its automotive paint booths.
The Energy Conservation Grand Prize Award has been presented by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) since 2011, with the aim of raising energy conservation awareness, promoting energy conservation activities and initiatives, as well as encouraging wider adoption of energy-efficient products and services. The award ceremony will be held at Tokyo Big Sight on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Energy Conservation in Automotive Paint Booths
Overview
The award was given for the energy conservation efforts at the Kyoto (Oyamazaki) Plant's paint booths for intermediate coating and overcoating.
The painting process accounts for roughly 65% of the plant's overall energy consumption, among which the paint booths consume the most energy, making the conservation of the used by them the biggest task in achieving the plant's carbon neutrality.
As part of the updating efforts at the plant, Daihatsu introduced an ultrahigh transfer efficiency coating machine and fully automated the coating process for a more compact paint booth, and adopted a new air conditioning system using recycled exhaust with a dry booth and cardboard filter. As a result, energy consumption in paint booths was reduced by 44% (1,450 kL/year) compared to the conventional method.

Daihatsu will continue to pursue the realization of carbon neutrality at its plants by 2035 through thorough implementation of energy conservation measures.
