Daihatsu Introduces a Tanto Special-Edition Model with Black Accents and Partially Upgrades the Tanto and Thor

Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Daihatsu”) has introduced a special-edition Tanto featuring black accents and partially upgraded the Tanto mini passenger car and Thor compact passenger car. Nationwide sales will commence on Monday, August 31.

Since its launch in 2003, Tanto has pioneered the new super-height category^*1. Today, the lineup consists of three variations: the Tanto, Tanto Custom, and Tanto FunCross, all of which have been well received by a broad range of customers, particularly families with children. For this launch, Daihatsu has introduced the Daily Tool special-edition Tanto featuring black accents, while also adding the Daily Tool Style, which combines a dedicated accessory package to create a more distinctive and stylish appearance. In addition, the new Urban Tough Style has been introduced for the Tanto FunCross, combining a dedicated accessory package with a design that balances urban sophistication and rugged strength.

As part of this minor model update, popular body colors have been added to both the Tanto and Thor lineups. In addition, the Thor now offers three new colors: Yellowish Black Crystal Mica,^*2 Grayish Olive Metallic, and Black Mica Metallic × Grayish Olive Metallic,^*2further enhancing customer choice.In terms of safety, Daihatsu has enhanced the preventive safety system Smart Assist,^*3by adding Crossing Cyclist Detection, as well as detection functions for vehicles in the opposing lane when making a right turn at intersections and pedestrians crossing from the opposite direction when making right or left turns. These enhancements further improve the safety performance of both the Tanto and Thor.

• Colored Door mirrors and outside door handles have been changed to Black Mica Metallic.
• 14-inch and 15-inch aluminum wheels have been changed to black.

<Safety Enhancements>

[Collision Warning] [Collision-Avoidance Braking] (Vehicles and Pedestrians [Day/Night])
• Added detection of bicycles crossing the vehicle’s path.
• Added detection of oncoming vehicles when turning right at intersections and crossing
pedestrians approaching from the opposite direction when turning right or left.
• The maximum operating-speed condition for pedestrian detection has been increased from 60 km/h to 80 km/h.
[Reduced Driving Burden]
• Improvements to the preceding-vehicle detection range and accuracy of ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) ^*5 provide smoother operation than before.

[Thor]
• A seat lifter has been added to the driver’s seat on the X grade.
• A headlamp illumination extension function has been added.
• SRS side airbags (driver and front passenger) have been adopted as standard equipment.
• SRS curtain shield airbags (front and rear seats) have been adopted as standard equipment.
• Two rear corner sensors have been added.

• Sway during operation of LKC (Lane Keep Control) ^*6has been reduced, improving driver confidence.

<Convenience Enhancements>

[Thor]
• The X grade adopts self-illuminating twin meters (with tachometer) and a TFT color multi-information display.
• An armrest has been added to the driver’s seat on the X grade.
