Cumulative Sales of Vehicles Equipped with Smart Assist Top 2,000,000

Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. has now sold a total of 2.0 million vehicles^*1 equipped with the Smart Assist collision avoidance system, as of the end of November 2018.

Daihatsu first equipped Smart Assist to the partially redesigned Move in December 2012. This was the first mini vehicle to be equipped with collision avoidance support braking and other advanced technologies at an affordable price. In April 2015, the system evolved into Smart Assist II, which gained monocular cameras in addition to the existing laser radar technology. Then, in November 2016, Daihatsu launched Smart Assist III. This version of the system utilizes the world’s smallest stereo cameras^*2, and its collision avoidance support braking is now able to react to pedestrians. In May 2018, the company released Smart Assist III t, which it equipped to its Hijet Truck mini commercial vehicle.

At present, Smart Assist is equipped to a total of 13 different models: 11 mini vehicles and two compact passenger cars. It is available on all models in Daihatsu’s line-up, from passenger cars to commercial vehicles, with the exception of the Copen, mini passenger car. Approximately 80–90 percent of customers choose to purchase grades that have Smart Assist installed, and the functionality and affordability of the system have received widespread praise.

In order to provide safety and peace of mind to as many customers as possible, going forward Daihatsu will continue to both develop and actively promote the widespread uptake of Smart Assist.
