Daihatsu Partially Upgrades Wake Mini Passenger Vehicle and Hijet Caddie Commercial Vehicle Improved safety performance with the addition of Smart Assist Ⅲ

Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. has partially upgraded the Wake mini passenger vehicle and Hijet Caddie commercial vehicle, and will release them nationwide on Thursday, November 30.

Launched in November 2014, the Wake features outstanding driver visibility and the largest cabin space of any mini vehicle.^*1 The car was developed together with professionals in the fields of camping, surfing and so on, and is distinctive for having specifications and equipment optimized for leisure activities. The Wake is highly regarded, particularly among leisure-oriented customers.

The Hijet Caddie was developed in response to societal changes which have seen greater proportions of women and seniors entering employment. It was launched in June 2016 as a new genre of mini commercial vehicle designed to make people’s work easier. The Hijet Caddie is characterized by its fuel efficiency and the quiet ride and convenience that stem from its FF^*2 layout.

Following the partial upgrades, both models are now equipped with the Smart Assist Ⅲ collision avoidance system^*3—which recognizes pedestrians as well as vehicles—and Rear Corner Sensors.^*3 The Wake is also equipped with the Panorama Monitor^*4 for improved safety performance; four cameras relay images of all four sides of the vehicle and a bird’s eye view of the vehicle is projected on the navigation screen.

Pricing for the Hijet Caddie has been revised and the model is now even more affordable.

Going forward, Daihatsu intends to roll out Smart Assist across its line-up, and thereby provide safety and peace of mind to even more of its customers.

Upgrades to both models

• Both models are now equipped with the Smart Assist Ⅲ collision avoidance system. As part of measures to reduce traffic accidents, the Japanese government is promoting the spread of “Safety Support Car S^*5.” The Wake and Hijet Caddie fulfill the requirements for the“Wide^*5” ranking under this system.

• Both models now feature Rear Corner Sensors

• Changes have been made to some manufacturer options

• Hijet Caddie grades and prices have been revised

• Bright Silver Metallic is now a standard color

• Speed-sensitive intermittent front wipers and security alarms are equipped as standard to all grades

*5: The government is promoting cars equipped with automatic brakes as “Safety Support Cars (Suppocars).” Cars additionally equipped with devices that control acceleration when the accelerator pedal is pressed accidentally are called “Safety Support Car S (Suppocar S).” Safety Support Car S is divided into three ranks according to the functions they feature. The top rank is “Wide,”and requires cars to be fitted with automatic brakes (that react to pedestrians), devices that control acceleration when the accelerator pedal is pressed accidentally, lane departure warning, and advanced lights.
