Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.
PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), an Indonesian subsidiary of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Daihatsu”), will renew its No. 1 production line of the ADM Sunter Assembly Plant located in Sunter, Jakarta in order to transform it into an environment-friendly and sustainable facility. Daihatsu plans to begin operating the new production line in 2024.
The No. 1 production line at ADM Sunter Assembly Plant, constructed 27 years ago, is expected to face a shortage of site area for future upgrade to achieve the SDGs. To address this, ADM decided to construct a No. 2 production line in the area adjacent to the site of the No. 1 production line of its Karawang Assembly Plant in West Java. The planned facility will focus on safety and a comfortable work environment. ADM intends to construct a facility that has excellent environmental performance, which will balance high productivity with high quality and achieve carbon neutrality objectives in the country with the Simple, Slim and Compact (SSC) concept, Daihatsu’s basic concept for MONODUKURI (automobile manufacturing).
The new line will aim to improve productivity in order to manufacture high-quality products at affordable prices. For this purpose, the new facility will apply the most advanced production technologies that will intensify the automatization of spot welding, improve painting efficiency, and provide ergonomic assembling processes and smooth physical distribution. Moreover, 3,600 solar panels for 2,100 kW of power will be installed on the roof of the plant as part of the effort to achieve carbon neutrality. This will hopefully help reduce CO2 emissions from the plant by about 20 percent per year.
“We would like to express our gratitude to all persons involved in the renewal, especially the Indonesian government who is engaged in realizing environmental sustainability. We will operate the existing No. 2 production line of the Sunter Assembly Plant in order to maintain the company’s production capacity and maximize production efficiency. We hope that the support of everyone involved will allow us to steadily advance the plan,” said Yasushi Kyoda, President of ADM.
Going forward, by expanding into emerging countries centered on ASEAN, Daihatsu will continue to aim to be a company that plays an intimate part in the lives of its customers by contributing to industry, human resources development, and the promotion of cars in each region.
