DAIHATSU MOTOR CO., LTD. (Daihatsu) announced today that the construction of the Oita (Nakatsu) Plant No. 2 of Daihatsu Motor Kyushu Co., Ltd. (President Akihiro Higashisako), a subsidiary of Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture, has been completed and that full-scale operations have begun. The ceremony held today to mark the completion of the construction was attended by numerous guests. A plant tour and a celebratory reception were also held in Nakatsu City.
The Oita (Nakatsu) Plant No. 2 is a simple, slim, and compact plant dedicated to the production of mini vehicles that integrates the streamlining measures that have been carried out at other Daihatsu plants in Japan. Significant reductions in the size of the building, plant and equipment investment, and the number of production processes were achieved at the new plant, while production capacity is on the same scale as the Oita (Nakatsu) Plant No. 1. The plant boasts manufacturing expertise to produce high-quality, cost-efficient vehicles suited for the global market.
Through the operation of the new Oita (Nakatsu) Plant No. 2, Daihatsu intends to establish a business model that will ensure enhanced revenue from mini vehicles, while normalizing the workload at plants that have been overburdened up to now.
