Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) and DAIHATSU MOTOR CO., LTD. (Daihatsu) announced today that they will each increase their automobile production capacities in Indonesia.

PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) currently produces a minivan in the IMV (Innovative International Multipurpose Vehicle) Project series (sold under the name Kijang Innova in Indonesia) at its Karawang Plant and, in response to strong demand, the company will increase annual production capacity from 70,000 vehicles to approximately 100,000 vehicles by the end of 2005. TMMIN will invest approximately 40 million USD (about 4.3 billion yen*) in the plant expansion and will hire approximately 500 new employees.

The IMV Project currently being promoted by TMC aims to create an optimal production and supply network on a global scale. From August of last year, production of IMV Project models began successively in Thailand, Indonesia, Argentina, South Africa, India, the Philippines and Malaysia. Within the project, Indonesia serves as a base for the production and export of minivans and gasoline engines.

In addition, PT. Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), which produces a small car developed jointly by Daihatsu and Toyota (sold by Daihatsu under the name Xenia and by Toyota under the name Avanza), will increase its annual production capacity in 2006 from 78,000 vehicles to 114,000 vehicles. Annual production capacity of the Xenia/Avanza will be increased from 52,000 vehicles to 84,000 vehicles. ADM will invest approximately 10 million USD (about 1.1 billion yen*) in the plant expansion and will hire approximately 700 new employees.

* Calculated at 1 USD = 107 yen

As a result of the increase in production capacities by the two companies, TMC and Daihatsu’s total annual production capacity in Indonesia will expand from 158,000 vehicles to 224,000 vehicles at full production and a total of approximately 1,200 new employees will be hired.
