Daihatsu has increased its investment in P.T. Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), a joint venture company in Indonesia.
Under a new agreement concluded on 6th August with local partner P.T. Astra International (AI) and Japanese partner Nichimen Corporation, Daihatsu injected additional capital into ADM, raising its percentage of shares in ADM from the previous 40% to 61.75%.
The move was aimed at boosting Daihatsu's participation in the Indonesian operation and strengthening Daihatsu's production and sales capabilities ahead of the coming liberalization of ASEAN markets. Daihatsu and AI expand their mutual cooperation in the area of sales.
In December 2001 Daihatsu moved to solidify its Malaysian operations by making into an affiliate a new holding company that had been established by Daihatsu and the joint venture company Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn. Bhd..
These two moves strengthen Daihatsu's operations and give the company a more powerful presence in ASEAN markets.
