RVs, which became popular thanks to their roominess and comfort, are now the focus even in the compact-class vehicle market. While purchasers are offered a broad range of choices, customers continue to be dissatisfied with the road performance of these vehicles, and this also applies to compact types. This made Daihatsu realize once more the strength of the bond between cars and road performance unit, and led it to develop the YRV as the answer to such needs. It is a new space utility that rivals an existing RV and has an outstanding power performance unit, all in a compact package. The YRV is a proposal for a new category of vehicle that offers a multipurpose utility, the handling ease of a small car, and economy, the most important, an exhilarating power performance.

Has a sporty, aerodynamic form taken from the angular styling of existing cars. The features of the appearance are the panoramic roof from the front window to the roof and double-wedge style which the front of the belt line is different from the rear.

With an overall length of 3,765 mm, width of 1,615 mm and height of 1,550 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,370 mm, the compact dimensions have been exploited to the full to impart a light, unfettered feeling to the interior. Window openings are large, and a stadium seating layout has been used, with the rear seats set higher than the front seats. With the front-to-back seat slide stroke of 150 mm, this emphasizes the feeling of spaciousness and the wide sweep of the view. The rear seat cushion can be removed to allow the seat back to be folded down, creating a large luggage space. Close attention has been paid to enhancing the wagon functionality of the YRV. A bench type seat is used at the front, but unlike a conventional bench seat, this one is sculpted to provide the body-hugging comfort and sportiness of a bucket seat

The YRV has a 1,300 cc twin-cam DVVT four-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged engine. The engine is a powerful unit, delivering a maximum output 103kW (140ps) and a maximum torque 177N•m (18.0 kg•m). With the high-stiffness body, the result is a sports-car like performance. An instrument-panel shift lever is used, which feels more like a floor-mounted shift and is easier to use than the former column shift. The shift switch is easy to change the gear with holding a steering wheel, when the driver change from D range to M range.Comes fully equipped with passive and active safety devices and features, including a crash-safety body<TAF>, which clears 64km/hODB, soft upper interior, a body designed to minimize injuries to pedestrians, and DVS (ABS, traction control system, side-slip control).
