CNG(Compressed Natural
Gas)
The compressed natural gas (CNG) engine is drawing a lot of
attention as a clean power source since its emissions
contain almost no hydrocarbons nor nitrogen oxides (NOx) and
only minimal levels of carbon dioxide (CO2). With such
excellent environmental friendliness, CNG is regarded as one
of the most promising alternatives to gasoline. Cars
equipped with CNG-engines have so far failed to provide a
level of power output comparable to that of a gasoline car,
that was until the arrival of the MOVE CNG. The MOVE CNG is
equipped with a twin-cam engine and a DVVT continuous
variable-valve timing system, providing not only power, but
also greatly improved fuel economy. In addition, the MOVE
CNG has dramatically lowered the level of exhaust emissions
by ensuring optimal combustion at all engine speeds, thanks
to an electronic fuel injection (EFI) system with a
multi-point injector (MPI) optimized for CNG fuel. By
combining the EFI system and a high-performance catalyst,
the MOVE CNG passed the J-ULEV, JapanÅfs year 2000
exhaust emissions standard, with flying colors. With exhaust
emissions more than 75% below the limit stated by J-ULEV,
the MOVE CNG has brought the dream of the zero emission
vehicle a giant step closer to reality. The MOVE CNG has
realized these advantages without sacrificing practicality.
The usage of two 31-liter aluminum fiber-reinforced-plastic
(FRP) CNG fuel tanks has markedly increased the distance a
CNG vehicle can travel on one refueling. Indeed, the MOVE
CNG has accomplished a distance of 300km, an impressive
result even among gasoline powered small cars. The two gas
tanks are housed underneath the rear seat creating enough
cabin space for four people to travel in comfort.
