performance that's earth friendly and fuel efficiency. Fleets of commercial minivehicles take care of local deliveries, playing a key role in today's sophisticated distribution systems. Developed to minimize environmental impact, the HIJET CARGO Hybrid is already in road tests, proving the real-world practicality of its compact hybrid system. |

U-LEV quality gasoline engine. The heart of this hybrid system is Daihatsu,s breakthrough EF-VE gasoline engine (U-LEV quality engine for minivehicles) employed in the HIJET CARGO base model and other Daihatsu products. With its electronically controlled fuel injection, DVVT (dynamic variable valve timing), as well as the electronic throttle control added to the HIJET CARGO Hybrid, this engine improves combustion characteristics to optimize power, fuel efficiency and emissions. |

performance achieved by TOPAZ catalytic converter. Daihatsu developed the TOPAZ catalytic converter based on an ultra-thin high-density honeycomb substrate. This original technology delivers outstanding performance and extended catalyst life. In combination with a heater equipped front oxygen sensor, TOPAZ begins to effectively reduce emissions as soon as the engine starts. |

simple configuration: DMHS (Daihatsu Mild Hybrid System) Now being road tested in Japan, the HIJET CARGO Hybrid is a highly practical eco car. This single-motor hybrid car* uses an ultra-thin motor positioned between the 660cc gasoline engine and the electronically controlled automatic transmission, and a nickel metal hydride battery which stores energy recovered during braking (a process called regenerative braking) and supplies electricity to the motor to assist the engine as needed when driving. While the engine powers the car during normal driving, the electric motor assists it during acceleration. When the car stops, the engine stops automatically, thereby saving fuel. The HIJET CARGO Hybrid not only outperforms its gasoline-only counterpart, it also improves fuel efficiency about 30%, while reducing emissions about 75% below Japan's year 2000 standards. *Applies Toyota hybrid technology. |
