Velocity compact from Daihatsuthe birth of a new category
Compact car specialist Daihatsu has successfully introduced a variety of innovative compact cars in the past. And today, we are proposing yet another new form of compact car, the YRV.
What makes the YRV so strikingly different from a conventional compact vehicle is the exhilaration produced by its unique blending of a wide-open interior with an unmistakably superior driving performance. At last you can drive a compact car without abandoning your hopes of an exciting driving experience.
But the YRV is far from being just a hot small car. It's also multi-purpose, economical and very easy to handle. A combination of all the usual small-car benefits with the addition of exhilarating runningthat's the concept of the YRV.

A sporty and flowing aeroform
Perhaps the single most eye-catching feature of the YRV is its double-wedge shape that creates a sporty ambiance as well as a large interior space.
Unlike the belt line of an ordinary car that runs straight from the front to the rear along the bottom edges of the side windows, the double-wedge shape of the YRV features front and rear side windows with individually angled bases. What's more, the windscreen extends to the roof to form a "panorama window", creating a completely new sporty aeroform for the exterior and a wide-open sensation for the interior.

A definitively sporty and uncompromising interior
The overall height of 1565 mm creates a large interior space with a wide-open feel, and the rear seat is positioned 75 mm higher than the front seats to create what we call a "stadium layout". The panorama window also adds an enhanced sense of spaciousness to the cabin, as well as affording excellent visibility for the driver and passengers alike. The rear seat is designed to slide backward and forward by as much as 150 mm for maximum passenger comfort, while for extra flexibility, the rear seat bottom can be taken out and the seat back can be split folded. In short, the YRV can also be used as a multi-purpose wagon.

Outstanding driving performance and state-of-the-art safety
The YRV's exhilarating driving feel comes largely from its engine. The newly developed 1300 cc twin-cam, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DVVT turbo engine (Type K3-VET) generates a max. output of 103 kW and a max. torque of 177 Nm. Combined with the highly rigid body, this allows the YRV to deliver an extremely sporty driving performance. Added to this are European tuned suspension and an electronically controlled automatic transmission with a steer shift that further enhance the exhilaration of driving this car.
With respect to safety, the YRV's crash-safety TAF body not only meets the safety standard required by the offset deformation barrier crash test at 64 km/h, it has also been specifically designed to minimize injury in the event of an accident involving pedestrians. Other safety features include DVS (ABS, traction control system, side-slip control), SRS curtain shield airbags and the SOFI head-impact protection interior. All in all, the YRV employs a great many passive and active safety features that protect both the occupants and pedestrians.
TAF: Total Advanced Function body
SOFI: Safety-Oriented Friendly Interior
