Cuore
The Cuore made its world debut in 1980 under the concept of "a
spacious 1.5-box style". The customer around the world appreciated
its highly refined utility and fashionable styling, and it was
particularly popular with female users. As a result, this model
has been sold the world over and has chalked up an impressive
accumulated production volume of over 4.5 million units in the
twenty-two years since its introduction. In the process, the Cuore
has also crowned its success by initiating the emergence of a
whole new era of stylish compact cars. What's more, over the years,
the Cuore has established itself as the compact-car standard that
is loved by customers of different generations.
The sixth generation of the Cuore inherits the basic concept of
its first generation, i.e., "a wide interior space and a
sophisticated styling", while at the same time further refining
the intrinsic characteristics of the small car, i.e., "economy
and utility". "High quality and performance that's beyond
its class", the all brand-new Cuore goes on sale here in
Europe as "future-generation basic car featuring innovative
packaging".
Packaging
A newly employed platform has made possible an interior space
that goes beyond the present conventional compact car paradigm.
In fact, the interior space that results from the innovative packaging
is comparable to that of the next class up, i.e. of a B-segmented
passenger car Specifically, the distance between the front and
rear seat passengers has been increased by 50 mm and the interior
width has been extended by 80 mm to create a more comfortable
cabin space. Just sit yourself down in either the driver's seat
or the rear seat, and feel by yourself directly what a relaxing
interior the new Cuore offers.
Exterior
The new Cuore's exterior design is aiming to incarnate a harmonization
a wide interior space being an embodiment of innovative packaging
in aerodynamic design. The combination of the flowing line running
from fender to roof and the wedge-like beltline is an expression
of the energetic vividness of which the Cuore is capable, while
the long wheelbase and rich blister fenders create a side view
that exudes a sense of stability. Under the design theme, "Aero
Big Cabin", the new Cuore has achieved a drag coefficient
of just 0.31. The Cuore's beautiful form, which clearly represent
that of a future generation vehicle combining superb aerodynamic
characteristics and a big interior space, blends naturally into
the contemporary European landscape.
Interior
The interior design pursues a high quality feel and an easiness
that are tailored to appeal not only to compact-car fans but also
to a wider range of users the world over. High quality features
including seamless airbag and a smoothly contoured dashboard composed
of flush surfaced parts create a relaxing interior. A small window
of the meter cluster with a tachometer displays "HELLO" when the
driver gets into the car and "SEE YOU" when he or she gets out
of the vehicle, symbolizing the friendly relationship between
the driver and the Cuore.
Utility
For the Cuore to be the Cuore, it must be easy for any driver
to use. Both the front and rear doors open out to an angle of
approximately 90° so that it is easy to get into or out of
the car. A hip point of 580mm also aids graceful ingress and egress.
And because a good driving position is important for every vehicles,
the Cuore's optional features include a seat lifter (height -
adjustable driver's seat), tilt steering and a seat belt shoulder
anchor adjuster. These features allow any driver , regardless
of their height and girth, to adjust the interior to their most
comfortable driving position. Furthermore, the Cuore features
a small turning circle and a various kinds of amenities including
ample storage to make it a car that's easy to use in all the scenes
of everyday life.
Engine and mechanism
In the Cuore, Daihatsu's technology has achieved the petrol-fueled
car with fuel consumption rated in the world's lowest class(*1).
A 1000 cc, 3-cylinder, 12-valve DOHC engine with DVVT (Dynamic
Variable Vlve Timing) features very high combustion efficiency,
resulting in a very low fuel consumption of 4.6 litres per 100
km(*2) and low exhaust gas emissions that
meet the Euro IV(*3) standard. With increased
torque in the frequently used rev zone, the Cuore delivers rapid
acceleration that matches or even surpasses driver expectations
in city driving, combining ecology and running performance at
a high level.

The Cuore boasts its European oriented suspension, tested and
proved its high performance after numerous tests in Europe in
our development project contributed by European engineers. The
newly developed L-arm front suspension and the suspension stroke
that has been increased by approximately 20% ensures beyond-its-class
comfort and driving stability and provides a quiet ride comfort
with suppressed vibration.
Safety
The Cuore continues its dogged pursuit of safety. In addition
to clearing the European crash safety standards by a wide margin,
the Cuore has been subjected to Daihatsu's own diverse crash tests
that combine a variety of tests conducted in various tests of
the world. Built on a renovated platform, the new Cuore was found
to have sufficient survival space in frontal, side- on, and even
car-to-car collision tests at 50 km/h against a heavier car, proving
its excellent ability to protect its occupants in the event of
a crash. The new platform is characterized by pursuing a structure
that efficiently absorbs and disperses crash energy through the
ample use of high-tension steel. The structure also attempts to
safeguard pedestrians by using shock- alleviating designs for
the hood and wiper pivots so as to reduce the severity of injuries
sustained by pedestrians in the event of an accident. The result
is Cuore with improved pedestrian-protection capabilities. Other
safety features include side airbags (option), shock- absorbing
pillar trims, anti-protrusion steering wheel mechanism and anti-retraction
brake pedal mechanism.
