YRV Turbo
The powerful turbo version of Daihatsu's distinctively individual YRV
compact car is now on sale in Europe.
With radical styling in the form of the world's first double-wedge design,
a "stadium-seating layout" which gives a feeling of spaciousness,
and with levels of advanced safety which are second to none, the body
is truly revolutionary. And under the bonnet you will find our 1,300
cc DVVT twin-cam engine which gives an active drive, and also has high
fuel economy. Once driven, you'll appreciate why we call it a "The
further pleasure of the drive".
Mechanics
What distinguishes the YRV turbo is its powerful drive unit and high
levels of safety.
The drive unit uses a 1,300 cc turbocharged engine which produces the
highest power output and torque. This turbo engine combines a turbocharger,
which reaches its intercept point at low revs, with Dynamic Variable
Valve Timing (DVVT) technology, which allows optimum valve timing selection.
This gives high power at high revs, and massive torque even at low and
medium revs.
A major feature is the ease of driving in any range coming from a torque-controlled
turbo, which means that data from various sensors is used to calculate
the appropriate supercharging pressure, so that operating the accelerator
provides a smooth response. The real pleasure of the drive comes from
the way the 3,765-mm long compact body has been combined with a turbo
engine with a maximum output of 95 kw/6,400 rpm and a maximum torque
of 170 N·m/2,800 rpm to achieve a highly sophisticated balance
between performance and fuel economy.
The car also has an electronically-controlled automatic transmission
which has been optimized in combination with turbo engine. Even though
it has automatic transmission, the steering shift allows the driver
to enjoy the driving experience in the way he or she wants, just like
on a manual shift.
Safety is also our prime concern. The car has a crash-safety body incorporating
a wealth of impact-absorbing features. As well as SRS dual airbags,
there are side airbags and inflatable curtains and a soft upper interior,
which markedly improve passive safety. In addition, there's the option
of ABS with EBD (electric brake-force distribution).
Design
The most striking feature of the YRV's distinct aerodynamics is its
unique double-wedge shape, which achieves a fine-tuned balance between
sporty looks and interior space. The YRV doesn't have the single front-to-back
belt line found in conventional car design. Instead it has all its own
style, which is achieved using wedge shapes which boldly switch between
the front and rear doors.
The bonnet of the YRV turbo has an air scoop which not only improves
cooling but also gives the car a thrusting appearance. The optional
panoramic glass roof gives fresh sporty aerodynamics and a feeling of
interior spaciousness.
Interior
Stylish aerodynamics provide an open-feeling interior space.
The front and rear seating has been fully thought through, the "stadium-seating
layout" affords commanding views with its highly supportive front
seats, and rear seats which are 75 mm higher than the front ones. This
also lets conversation flow more freely in the cabin.
In addition, the rear seats can slide 150 mm front to back, the rear
seat cushion is detachable, and the seat backs can be split and stored
so that the car can also be used as a wagon and is up to the challenge
of a wide range of uses.
The optional panoramic glass roof gives a feeling of overhead spaciousness
and allows the occupants to enjoy bright sunshine and the feeling of
an open-topped vehicle.
