Styling Far from being merely a shrunk-down version of a top-of-the-line cab wagon, the NCX-2 has a unique identity all its own. Although it's compact, its high-class looks and commanding presence, together with the side mouldings that continue from the front to the rear bumper, express its thoroughgoing high-quality, low-gravity design. A Compact RV A surprisingly compact size gives the NCX-2 a singular status among the numerous RVs on today's market. The overall length and width of 3765 mm and 1515 mm respectively, puts this vehicle in the same league as B-segmented cars. This high degree of compactness, together with a relatively lofty height of 1895 mm and a tight 8.8 m turning circle which corresponds to that of A-segmented cars, makes the NCX-2 very easy to manoeuvre. A Spacious Cabin Within the NCX-2's compact exterior dimensions is a cabin space comparable to that of a 2-litre class minivan. Equipped with three rows of seats, this RV can carry up to six occupants. And for when you want to carry a lot of luggage, the innovative seating design makes it possible to trade off passenger seats for luggage space. Specifically, the 2nd and 3rd row seats can be folded flat, either together or individually, to provide a variety of seat formations. In addition, the 2nd row seat can be slid by up to 450 mm, and the seat back can also be folded for use as a table. Semi-Cab Layout To allow the coexistence of a roomy interior and a compact overall size without sacrificing the superb running performance and comfort of a passenger car, the NCX-2's engine is slanted at an angle of 67Ž¡ and mounted midship below the floor. Its midship layout, low-gravity design, 50 : 50 front-to-rear weight distribution, and long wheelbase --- unprecedented in this class of vehicle --- combine to realize excellent driving stability. Engine The newly developed 4-cylinder, 1.3-litre, DOHC, 16-valve DVVT* petrol engine (Type K3-VE) generates a maximum output of 62 kW at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 120 Nm at 4400 rpm, giving the NCX-2 a top-level performance for a 1.3-litre class vehicle. Moreover, CO2 emissions have been kept at a low 168.6 g/km while fuel consumption is a thrifty 7.1 litres/100 km. Put simply, the NCX-2's engine performance compares favourably with that of the minivan class. *Dynamic Variable Valve Timing Safety The NCX-2 also incorporates Daihatsu's original passive safety body while a pull in type steering system is employed to maximize the safety of the short-nosed body structure. The NCX-2 not only meets the ODB (offset deformable barrier) standard, it also satisfies the safety requirements specified in the Euro NCAP conditions. And like all new-generation Daihatsu cars, the NCX-2 is equipped with advanced safety technologies. Both the driver and front-passenger seats are equipped with airbags, and the vehicle incorporates a system that automatically releases door locks and cuts fuel when the car senses a large-enough impact.
