Greetings at the Geneva Motor Show
Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much for gathering at the Daihatsu Booth today. On behalf of all our staff at Daihatsu Motor Company, I'd like to welcome you to this exhibition of our latest efforts.

Ever since the establishment of our company in 1907, it has been a motto of our company to provide products that meet the needs of each era, and it is due in no small measure to our pursuit of this goal that our products have been loved by people around the world. During the past ninety-two years, the environment surrounding the automotive industry has experienced great changes. Some times the environment has been in our favour, but at other times the environment has been rather severe for our industry. Daihatsu has survived the difficult periods not only because of its advanced technology and development capability, but also on account of its planning and sales capabilities that have allowed the company to consistently introduce new products into the world. And of course, we cannot forget our distributors around the world who are on the front line of our sales activities. We owe what we are today to all the personnel and parties involved in everything from development to sales and service who have joined forces to survive through the difficult periods.

For the past several years, we have been aiming at becoming the world's leader in compact car design and production under the slogan "We make it Compact". At the last Frankfurt Motor Show held in 1997, we exhibited our first series of new-generation compact cars-the Move and Gran Move mini wagons, the new type 4X4 Terios and the new concept compact passenger car NCX, which was launched the following year in the European market as the Sirion. Earlier this year, we introduced the new Cuore with 1.0 litre engine and have since introduced the new Move in various countries of the world.

And today, we are introducing two new concept car models.

The first of which is the SIRION 2CD. This is a super-eco car powered by an epoch-making two-stroke cycle diesel engine, and it is positioned as the so called 3-litre car. Thanks to its power and vibration characteristics comparable to that of petrol-powered cars, the SIRION 2CD is an eco car designed to be enjoyed rather than endured. Moreover, its exhaust gas emission level is well within the level demanded by the next emission regulations, the Euro IV.

The NCX-2 is the second concept car we're going to show you today. This model is a new concept semi-cab wagon offering an amazingly flexible interior space within a small body. It's a car that matches the different life styles of a wide range of users and allows them to express their originality through its superb engine performance, reduced exhaust gas emissions, comfortable interior space and enhanced safety features.

Under the slogan, "We make it COMPACT", Daihatsu Motor will continue to produce safe and environmentally friendly compact cars that satisfy the needs of society and of car users. And this policy will not change in the 21st century, because it is a theme of our company that should last forever.
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
