SOFI

Passenger-friendly Safer interior SOFI

In order to protect passengers from collision accidents, safety features are a must for the interior as well. When customers purchase small vehicles, they are placing more emphasis on safety. There is strong interest in airbags, ABS and other features. Daihatsu has evolved safety features for small cars. Daihatsu’s SOFI system *1 is a safe interior that keeps collision damage to a minimum.

SRS*2 Curtain Shield Air Bag and SRS Side Air Bag

SRS Curtain Shield Air BagThe SRS Curtain Shield Air Bag is activated when there is strong impact on either side of the vehicle. Air bags embedded in the front pillar and roof expand to cover the side of the front passengers’ head area, thus easing shock to the head. SRS Side Air Bags are activated at the same time, thus easing shock to the chests of front seat passengers.

Dual (driver seat/passenger seat) SRS Air Bag

Dual (driver seat/passenger seat) SRS Air BagActivated upon strong impact from the front of the vehicle, the system eases heavy impact to the head and chest of people in the driver’s seat and passenger seat.

Head Impact Protection

Shock-absorbing ribDepending on the type of collision, there are instances where passengers may experience secondary shock from striking the roof. To address this, we have implemented a resin rib structure to the interior of the front, center and quarter pillars. The roof side rail is equipped with a honeycomb structure, thus easing shock to the head.

Dynamic Support Head Rest (front seat, left and right)

Dynamic Support Head Rest (front seat, left and right)When there is impact at medium to slow speed from the rear of the car, passengers’ backs are pushed into their seats. We have used this action to move the headrest forward, thus easing shock to the jaw.

Front seatbelt with pre-tensioner and force remitter structure

Front seatbelt with pre-tensioner and force remitter structureWhen a strong impact is detected, the seatbelt is immediately wound up through the pre-tensioner system, which heightens primary restriction on the passenger. When the load on the seatbelt exceeds a certain level, it maintains that level and brings the seatbelt out to ease shock to the chest. This is the force remitter system that is used in the front seatbelts.

Shock Sensor Safety System

Shock Sensor Safety SystemWhen the sensor detects impact from a collision, the door locks are opened, the hazard lamp is activated, and the in-car lamp is turned on. This makes passenger rescue easier, while also making visual recognition by other cars easier, thus preventing the accident from affecting other vehicles.

Child Seat Attachment System Rear: Three Point ELR Seatbelt (left and right seats)

For the rear left and right seatbelts, the amount of belt that can be pulled out has been limited, thus enabling easy fitting of child seats. This is the three-point ELR seatbelt system.

*1  SOFI stands for Safety-Oriented Friendly Interior. It is an interior that is friendly and safe for passengers. The safety features in SOFI differ by car type and grade.
*2  Stands for Supplemental Restraint System. Refers to supplemental protection system for passengers.
